Pricing Suggestions

We think the best way to price your dress is to first look at a few key factors: who designed the dress, how old it is, the condition and the price you originally paid. Ask yourself, “is this a popular designer?” or “is my dress in pristine condition?” Questions like these can lead you toward a realistic asking price. If you need more help, we’ve come up with a few more guidelines.
If your dress is:

• New with tags  We’d say list your dress at 25% off the original price. A new dress with tags should initially be priced at 25% off of the original price. This is the type of gown that was ordered and never worn, or maybe has never even been tried on!
.
• New without tags We’d say list your dress at around 30-50% off what you initially paid.

• A sample dress  While sample dresses can certainly be sold at full price, we think it’s to the sellers advantage to slightly lower the cost of the dress.

• Lightly used   We’d say list your dress at least 50% off the original price
-Extremely popular  You could start your listing at 40% off the original price.

Other guidelines for selling your dress:

Don’t Forget!:

- The age of your dress is absolutely essential for pricing! If your dress is more than 2 ½ years old, your price should reflect such
-If your dress has been discontinued, the price should reflect the discontinuation.
-Price reductions should also be taken into account if your dress has ANY stains, tears, or other defects. It’s your responsibility to note any imperfections for complete accuracy of your dress!  If the dress has been professionally cleaned, of course mention, more value!
-Any alterations made to your dress (for example adding more lace, or a train) adds value to your dress.
-List and accessories that come with the purchase your dress: shoes, shawl, straps, etc! This definitely adds value!
Consider offering a return policy for your dress.  If you do accurately describe the dress, returning the dress shouldn’t be an issue you’ll have to deal with, but certainly shows your trustworthiness in the accuracy you’ve described the dress.

Remember these are merely suggestions: you’re the seller and in control of how fast you want that closet cleaned out, and extra cash in your wallet!

As always when buying something from the internet, you should take steps to protect yourself during the purchase. If you have found a wedding dress on our site, there are several things you should do:
    •    Know the dresses real retail price. Go to the designer's website, online certified wedding retailers, or to a local store to see the dress’s price. Researching this price will help you negotiate the amount for which you purchase the dress. Ask the seller for a copy of her original receipt if she  still has it.
    •    Ask specific questions about the condition of the dress and any flaws or defects that may exist. Ask the seller to send you photos from every angle if necessary.
    •    Protect yourself during the money exchange.  We recommend using escrow.com or paypal.com  Research the benefits of each service before listing the dress to determine the best course of action once the dress has sold.
    •
    •    Know the following information about the seller and dress you are purchasing:
    •    Name, Street Address, City/State/Prov, Zip/ Postal Code
    •    Phone (day), Phone (night), Email
    •    Is seller original owner?
    •    Is dress designer authentic?
    •    Is there proof of authenticity like a label, original receipt etc?
    •    What alterations have been made?
    •    How was the gown professionally cleaned?
    •    What are the details on any stains, tears, rips, or other imperfections?
Ultimately, it comes down to being smart and trusting your instincts.
